Alternator Shaft Grinding Machine By RA Power Solutions
Alternator white metal Babbitt bearings play a critical role in the smooth functioning of generator and alternator shafts, reducing friction between moving parts and supporting heavy radial loads.
At RA Power Solutions, we manufacture and rebabbitt these specialised bearings with precision, quality, and industry-tested processes that ensure maximum reliability and long service life.
What Are Alternator White Metal Babbitt Bearings?
White metal Babbitt bearings consist of a durable, low-friction alloy layer, typically made from tin, antimony, and copper, bonded to a robust steel backing. They help maintain smooth rotation and minimise wear between the alternator shaft and its housing.
After grinding the alternator shaft due to damage, it is necessary to babbitt the white metal bearing. The thickness of the white metal is increased to compensate for the reduction in the diameter of the alternator shaft after grinding. It is necessary that after rebabbitting of the white metal alternator bearing, the specified oil gap is maintained as stipulated in the manual.
It is necessary to check the bearing shell after removing the old white metal. The bearing shell must be free of any hard spots, cracks, or pitting.
Manufacturing & Rebabbitting Process
At RA Power Solutions, we use centrifugal babbitting to bond white metal to the bearing shell. This process ensures a uniform, dense microstructure that enhances strength and longevity.
- Inspection of old bearings: Remove worn metal and check the steel shell for cracks or hard spots.
- Controlled babbitting: We pour white metal using centrifugal casting to achieve excellent bonding and a consistent bearing surface.
- Precision machining: Bearings are machined to exact OEM tolerances to ensure perfect fit and alignment.
We produce new alternator white metal Babbitt bearings and rebabbitt old ones in sizes up to 1500 mm bore, catering to even the most demanding industrial applications.
Rebabbitting of alternator bearings, turbine bearings, rotor bearings, and crankshaft bearings is regularly undertaken for the following engines: MAN-B&W, Sulzer, Wartsila, Mak, Deutz, Pielstick, Mitsubishi, Daihatsu, Yanmar, Bergen, Niigata, Himsen, Allen, Stork, Fiat, MWM, Hanshin, Caterpillar, SKL, Ruston, Paxman, Crespelle, Mirrlees, Alco, ABC, Nohab, etc.
